We had a wonderful time and warm welcome at Woodside Day Centre in Dudley. Thank you to all the staff and service users who helped with the smooth running.
We rolled up every Friday morning for four weeks with new recipes and a car full of equipment. It was a great pleasure to be working here.
People generously included themselves in the sessions and went home each week with the goodies they made – from spelt bread, half&half white and brown loaves, soda fruit bread and lemon cookies… to savoury cheese and fruit scones. (Keep a look out for our recipe page – coming soon!).
We learned about food, cooking, nourishment…. how nice it is to work in a group and how encouraging it is to be helped and have your produce admired by your fellow bakers and friends 🙂 Different people came and went – we had a steady group who came pretty much every week! Thank you to everyone who gave their time and positive energy to try a new skill or develop an existing one.
Over the four weeks we had opportunity to try out different recipes and to learn something of bread and its very slow and ‘kneady’ ways!! Two hours is never enough but we hope people will be inspired to take some more time at home and make bread with the required rising times…. It is a good way to make a space in the day or week to slow down – think about what you need – and think about making some bread for someone else…. It is a very lovely gift.
One baker said all her family had commented on how lovely it was…. That’s really nice to hear – bread is about heart and community, warmth and connection.
